THE OPPORTUNITY

As the Financial Reporting and Accounting Manager, you will be responsible for key operational accounting processes during the monthly close cycle and oversee the preparation and issuance of financial statements. This role focuses on key corporate accounting areas, such as expense accruals, stock compensation, shareholders equity, contract analysis and management, international growth, statements of cash flows, new concepts, fair value, and more. This role is central in producing accurate and timely financial reporting in compliance with U.S. GAAP, SEC regulations and Chipotle policies. You will serve as a key liaison between external auditors, internal auditors, and cross-functional teams within the finance organization.

LOCATION

This position will be based in our Newport Beach, CA office 4 days per week (with work from home on Friday). Remote work is not available for this role.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Oversee the preparation of both external and internal financial statements to ensure accuracy and timely completion, serving as a subject matter expert on Chipotle’s primary SEC filing tool.

  • Manage annual external audit and quarterly reviews, coordinating with external auditors to ensure an effective and efficient process.

  • Develop and maintain advanced accounting models to support Chipotle’s evolving needs and initiatives. 

  • Prepare and review complex journal entries during the monthly general ledger close cycle.

  • Analyze and interpret accounting results, providing actionable insights to leadership and cross-functional partners. 

  • Develop and implement internal controls to ensure compliance with SOX requirements, maintaining proper documentation for all accounting and financial reporting processes and assisting with SOX compliance and internal audit requests.

  • Conduct technical accounting research and document conclusions with white papers and formal accounting memos.

  • Proactively identify and act on opportunities for improvement within accounting and financial reporting processes by using existing or new technology to drive efficiencies.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO THE TABLE

  • Bachelor's Degree (BA/BS) from a 4-year college or university in accounting, Finance, or related field.

  • 5-8 years of public accounting and financial reporting experience required.

  • A CPA designation required.

  • Strong technical knowledge of U.S. GAAP, SEC reporting requirements, and SOX compliance.

  • Advanced proficiency in Excel and familiarity with any of Oracle ERP, IBM Tririga, Workiva, Alteryx, Floqast and PowerBI preferred.

  • Demonstrated ability to think critically and strategically, with strong problem-solving skills and the ability to self-service and improve upon existing processes.

  • Exceptional analytical, quantitative, written, and verbal communication skills.  

  • Proven ability to manage priorities and projects effectively in a fast-paced environment, maintaining confidentiality and professionalism in handling financial data.

  • Strong leadership skills with a growth mindset, essential for guiding teams and driving improvements.

  • Ability to work independently and efficiently, leveraging available resources to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines simultaneously.

  • A passion for sharing knowledge and mentoring others in the areas of accounting and financial reporting.

PAY TRANSPARENCY

A reasonable estimate of the current base pay range for this position is $113,000.00–$158,000.00. You are also eligible for annual cash bonuses and equity awards based upon performance and other factors. Actual compensation offered may vary depending on skill level, experience, and/or education.
