THE OPPORTUNITY
The Director, Restaurant Technology will lead the strategy, deployment, and support of technology solutions across Chipotle’s restaurant operations. This leader will ensure that hardware, software, POS, and payment systems are reliable, secure, and scalable to meet the needs of both customers and restaurant teams. The role oversees vendor partnerships, supports new restaurant openings, manages field services, and drives innovation in restaurant technology to improve efficiency, guest experience, and business performance. The ideal candidate will excel in navigating the intricacies of both on-premises and cloud environments, ensuring secure, reliable, and scalable services. The Director will have deep knowledge of public clouds, cloud native computing technologies and establishing best practices, standards, and governance. This role will lead strategy development through collaboration, communication, and innovation with stakeholders and peer organizations.
LOCATION
This position will be based in our Columbus, OH office 4 days per week (with work from home on Friday). Remote work is not available for this role.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
Define and execute the restaurant technology strategy and roadmap aligned to business objectives and scalable growth.
Own the design, delivery, and lifecycle of core platforms (POS, payments, networking, back office), ensuring secure integration and a balance of innovation, stability, and performance.
Lead technology planning, integration, and deployment for new restaurant openings and remodels; coordinate cross-functionally to deliver on-time, on-budget readiness and integrate new locations into the existing infrastructure.
Lead automation and AI initiatives to streamline operations and reduce costs; pilot, measure, and scale proven solutions with a focus on reliability and value.
Orchestrate large‑scale deployments across the chain, including new store openings, remodels, and upgrades, using standardized playbooks, change control, and on‑time/on‑budget execution.
Ensure high availability and performance of restaurant infrastructure, own SLAs for uptime, incident response, and support effectiveness.
Run and continuously improve field services for rapid resolution; drive root cause analysis, problem management, and proactive store technology health.
Drive ongoing improvements in usability, efficiency, reliability, and performance using metrics and operator feedback.
Partner with Operations and cross‑functional teams to translate field needs into solutions that improve execution and guest satisfaction.
Enforce security best practices, patching, and incident response; partner with Cyber Security to implement controls and maintain compliance with applicable standards.
Own the restaurant technology budget (capital and operating), forecasting, and cost optimization while maintaining high service quality.
Manage vendors, service providers, contracts, and licensing to maximize value, accountability, and cost‑effectiveness.
Build, mentor, and inspire a high‑performing team focused on deployment, support, and field service excellence.
WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO THE TABLE
Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience is required; Master’s Degree preferred.
10+ years of progressive experience in areas of Network, Cloud and Systems Engineering within enterprise and multi-site environments.
8+ years of experience leading the strategy and execution of large-scale new store openings, remodels and chain-wide upgrades.
8+ years of Supervisory Experience with a demonstrated ability to drive a high-performance culture through values-based leadership and accountability.
Current technical certifications with a focus on one or more of the major hyperscale providers (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP).
Strong understanding across cloud and infrastructure components (iaas/paas, server, storage, network, security, identity, certificates, firewalls) to provide end-to-end infrastructure designs.
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; able to translate complex technology into clear plans for executives and operators.
Proven success supporting a large, privately held, multi‑unit restaurant organization, or comparable scale within the restaurant industry.
Highly adaptable and effective in fast‑paced, evolving business environments.
Be available on-call; Some travel may be required.
PAY TRANSPARENCY
A reasonable estimate of the current base pay range for this position is $155,000.00–$225,500.00. You are also eligible for annual cash bonuses and equity awards based upon performance and other factors. Actual compensation offered may vary depending on skill level, experience, and/or education.
